A profile of Winston Churchill’s friendship with F.E. Smith, who was ennobled as Lord Birkenhead, has been published on the Churchill Project. Smith and Churchill were great friends from their initial meeting in 1906, and together formed the Other Club in 1911 and served alongside each other in the British cabinet. Churchill later wrote of his friend that, “we met and talked on innumerable occasions; never did I separate from him without having learnt something, and enjoyed myself besides.” The article was prepared by the author of this blog and is entitled, “Great Contemporaries: F.E. Smith, Lord Birkenhead.” It is available here.
