Britain’s first plastic banknote, which features Winston Churchill, has been unveiled by Mark Carney, the governor of the Bank of England, in an event at Blenheim Palace, Churchill’s birthplace. The image of Churchill on the new £5 note was taken from the iconic photograph of Churchill by Yousuf Karsh. The new fiver will come into circulation in September 2016 and will be followed by a £10 plastic note with Jane Austen in 2017 and a £20 plastic note with JMW Turner by 2020. A report on the unveiling is available from the Guardian, BBC, and the Daily Telegraph.
