Barbara Taylor Bradford, the author of 31 novels that have sold in the millions, has donated a “treasured wartime letter” she received from Clementine Churchill to the Churchill Archives Centre. In 1943 the then ten-year old Bradford held a jumble sale that raised £2 for the “Aid for Russia” campaign which she sent on to 10 Downing Street. Clementine Churchill replied with a personal letter of thanks. Bradford recalls, “Can you imagine the lovely surprise for this little girl to get a personalised reply from the wife of the iconic Winston Churchill?” Reports on the donation are available from the Yorkshire Post and ITV News.
